Censorship

I have come to look really hard at the matter of censorship here recently. At first, years ago, i believed (like many) that we needed the government to censor so that we would be protected from things that didn't need to be seen or heard. Now, you have to remember that this was during my child years that this thought pattern developed. However the more i thought about it during my teen years, it changed some because of the music i liked, and how censorship covered up some of what i wanted to hear. Then when i had kids, my thinking reverted back because i wanted my children protected from the things that they didn't need to hear or see. So in this one instance, like many Americans, i relied on the government to decide what needed to be censored and what did not.

However after a long time of contemplating all the different scenarios in my head on this issue. I started to realized that i was trusting this government to make the right decision for me and my family on this issue, but i didn't trust them on anything dealing with any other part of my life. I started to realize that most Americans give into the censorship because it is the easy thing to do. Now don't get me wrong, i fully agree that censorship in this country is paramount for the children of this age to grow up well balanced and become the great citizens we need them to be. However the censorship that needs to take place, needs to take place IN THE HOME, not in government offices. Parents need to stand up and censor what their kids watch on TV, listen on the Radio, listen to on CD, games they play, and the movies they watch. But it should always be the parents duty to decide what is best for their family, not the governments, not the church's, not the extended family, but the parents. Its your choice and responsibility and right to censor, no one else's.

If you want to see how far governments censorship can go. Look no further than the following regimes - Nazi Germany, Communist Russia, Hussein's Iraq, Chavez's Venezuela. These are countries where censorship went so far as to turn the people in to sheep by the propaganda machines. Do some research and you will see what i mean.
