The Illegal Drug Myth - Part 1 The Use

I have started to take a look at the situation on illegal drugs in this country. We are conditioned to think various things on drugs. I think one the biggest myths is the one about users and how they can't get off of the drugs. Now as a Libertarian i believe that all Drugs should be legalized, mainly to take the criminal element out of it. But this brings me at odds with the Drug myth mongers in this country (mainly the government and the media). Here's what i believe, many of the drugs out today are a problem because we have been conditioned that they are a problem. There is an astigmatism that goes with drugs in this country. Majority of the drug problems in this country didn't become problems until they were made illegal. I'll give an example of the problems with being conditioned they way people have been. Lets just say that i have a drug problem with Crack. I want to get help but i am afraid of what people will say, not to mention possibly lose my job over it. So i decide i want to get treatment for this. However as soon as i go to treatment people start to talk behind my back about my "problem". So when i do come out of treatment i have to deal with not only the stress of "kicking the habit" but also the overwhelming stress of dealing with the crap that other people say about a situation they know nothing about. Now all this stress might become to be too much to deal with so i go back using. I use this strictly as an example. But when things are illegal and others have been conditioned to think down on people who do these illegal things, this creates a much worse problem than before it was illegal. Look at the major drugs of today ( Cocaine, Marijuana, Steroids) these didn't come widespread problems until after they became illegal. Why did it become a problem, because it forces people to be secretive about their use due to the illegality of it. Face it is there any where near the widespread problem with Tobacco and Alcohol today? Take yourself back about 90 years ago and look at the problems that came when they prohibited Alcohol, then look at how the problem decreased after prohibition was lifted. When prohibition was lifted the crime went away, deaths and illness decreased since it was a more regulated industry then (remember during prohibition that bootleggers used to cut their booze with kerosene and other chemicals to make more money)

Its time to desensitize people on the conditioning that has been done. If people want to use drugs, face it, its their right to do it as long as it doesn't harm or suppress others rights. Its time for everyone to take themselves out of the "Drug Conditioned" box and really think about the "Crap Soup" we have been force fed. I say it is time to tell the government to butt out and let people choose for themselves.
