Principal Outs Gay Students

Here is an interesting story out of Memphis:

Memphis, TN - Attorneys for the American Civil Liberties Union say Daphne Beasley, the principal of Hollis F. Price Middle College High School in South Memphis, went way beyond her role as educator.
The ACLU says in September 2007, Beasley asked her staff to give her the names of students who were couples, heterosexual and homosexual, because she wanted to keep an eye on them to cut down on public displays of affection.
She's accused of publicly posting the names of those students, including two boys, Andrew and Nicholas, who had just started dating. The ACLU says that in doing so, Beasley revealed their relationship to other students, teachers and even their parents.
In a letter sent Tuesday, April 29, 2008 to Memphis City Schools, the ACLU says the principal's actions violated the students' constitutional rights to equal protection, freedom of expression and association, due process and privacy.

Now this is the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard. What makes this principal even remotely think this is ok? I have seen many numb skulls in government, but this has to take the most braindead award.

In this country, there is still a stigma about gays. Regardless of what side of the fence you are on in this topic, people who are gay still have the same rights as those of us that are not. There is no law on the book that states that when you "come out of the closet" that you give up your rights. Does this principal not care about the lives of her students.

By giving out the names of gay couples, she has passed judgement on them that envolve punishment by people making fun of them, discriminating against them, and even possibly looking to harm them. This is ridiculous and extremely uncalled for. This "person" (which i use loosely for this educator) should be fired immediately, astrocized for her actions (even to the point of being sued - i know i hate the word or act of sueing in most cases), and truely be punished for her dispicable actions that could potentially lead to the embarressment, harm, or death of the students she is sworn to care for.

It is time to stand up for those that are different from us. Just because the their ideology, sexual persuasion, looks, skin color, lifestyle, hair color, background might be different from yours doesn't mean that they are any less entitled to the same rights under the constitution as you are.

Hooray for the ACLU standing up for this one! Even though i don't agree with most of what they stand up for.

Viva Liberty!
