What happened to the Speedy Trial?

Isn't in the Constitution in this country that you have the right to a speedy trial? I believe it is. Well what has happened to that right? I know there are reasons for both sides to postpone a trial. However isn't it the governments responsibility to uphold the constitution. So it should be the prosecutors and judges responsibility to ensure that the case comes to trial in a reasonable amount of time. I know of cases where the defense will continue to get a trial postponed to push off the inevitable (in some cases).

Well back in the news now is the trial of R&B star R. Kelly. For those of you who don't know, he is charged with child pornography. He has been awaiting trial for 6 years now.

It is time to get back on track with our court system. It's time for the government to adhere to what the constitution says.

Viva Liberty!
